Oh me, Oh My

So I'm splitting my blog into two, so first up is my current obsession with Marge + Gower Champion. Last Friday, I was watching "Three for the Show" and hadn't realized who Gower and Marge were until I finally looked them up. They were the most famous dancing married couple. I was just mesmerized by their dancing and their chemistry. No, they weren't better than Fred and Ginger but they were pretty darn good. I kept yelling at the t.v., hoping that Gower didn't go back to Betty Grable's character. Below is the link to the video of one of my favorite scenes from the movie, that unfortunately doesn't include Marge.

Marge and Gower married in 1947 until 1973. Gower passed away in the 80's from a rare blood cancer but Marge is still alive(she'll be 90 in September). If you haven't seen these two before, definitely go check them out.

Next up is some pic spam!

My autographs

For a couple of years, I've been sending out letters and asking for autographs. It usually doesn't take too long to get back, like Lauren Bacall's it only took two weeks for me to get. So here they are-

Angela Lansbury

ElizabethTaylor

Jerry Lewis

Joan Fontaine

Lauren Bacall

Louis Jourdan

I am planning on sending out more letters soon.

The Broadway Melody

With my growing interest in Anita Page, I was quite tempted to watch a movie of hers after hearing of her passing at the age of 98. I automatically recorded "Our Dancing Daughters", "Our Modern Maidens" and "The Broadway Melody". I had previously seen Dancing Daughters and Modern Maidens on TCM a year earlier, when I was in my Joan Crawford mood.

I guess I had forgotten just how corny those two movies were but I couldn't stop laughing at how ridiculous they are especially when Joan is dancing. The funniest thing about that movie was Douglas Fairbanks Jr doing his impersonations of John Barrymore.

I somewhat delayed watching "The Broadway Melody'' after the corniness, I had to endure thanks to those movies. As I looked up more about Broadway Melody, I found out that this was the first talking musical and that it won best picture of the year. The film stars Anita Page and Bessie Love as sisters, who hope to become famous Broadway stars. The two come to New York, hoping to find stardom around the corner for both.

Anita really steals the show from everyone and quite impressed me. At just 19 years of age, Anita was just wonderful to watch. She is willing to be unhappy, so that her sister is happy. What she doesn't realize though is, that in reality she is hurting her sister. They both crave for the other to be happy but both are deeply in love with the same man. Bessie hates to see her sister in pain, so she gives up her happiness in order to accommodate her sister's.

"The Broadway Melody" is a great early talkie and musical. Go on and check it out! ;)

Moon Over Miami

Last Friday, I watched the musical "Moon over Miami'' that starred Don Ameche, Betty Grable, Robert Cummings, and Carole Landis. I really liked this movie though it isn't a top-notch musical. Robert and Don played off each other so well as best friends who often are competiting against one another. Betty and Carole look amazingly alike and in the film, they play sisters who are looking for a rich man to sink their teeth into. The songs in the movie were really great, much better than I had expected. The dancing is phenomenal to watch and whoever the two men that were tap-dancing did a splendid job. The only problem I had with this movie was that, they never developed a relationship between Carole and Robert. It was automatically assumed they loved each other, after meeting each other only twice. Don's and Robert's singing voices aren't particularly great but it's still funny to hear them try. Before I forget to mention, I loved seeing Jack Haley as the waiter in this film. He was able to add an extra attitude to the film. He seemed to always deliver his lines on the spot and he did it so well.

Besides watching movies, this week has been rather slow. I've managed to watch an old movie every day which is great in itself. Tonight I'm planning on watching "The Broadway Melody'' and I'm hoping that it's good. Until then!

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year to Everyone! I had a great New Year's Eve Day and my plans today will be watching Dana Andrews' movies, who would have turned 100 years old today. Due to the fact that neither, Fox Movie Channel or Turner Classic Movies aren't playing his movies, I'll just be playing the ones I already have recorded. They would be Boomerang, Purple Heart, Where the Sidewalk Ends, and Fallen Angel. I've never seen any of these so I'm excited. Dana may you have a terrific 100th birthday!
