Today I was browsing the internet, when I found the review for "Beyond a Reasonable Doubt", a remake of 1956 film(with the same title and was directed by Fritz Lang). The website that I was looking at, gave the movie a C but seeing as I'm a dedicated old movie fan, I would have probably given it something worse because it's a remake.
The thing is, I will tolerate the new movies(it really depends on what the movie is though) that come out of Hollywood but I just can't stand remakes- no matter what movie they are remaking. I had been irked for some time about hearing that BARD would be the next victim in a serious of bad remakes, so I'm always worried about what movie, new Hollywood wants to remake. So this entire blog is trailers(yep, trailers) but I'm going to show the old movie's trailer and then afterward show the remake's trailer. So I want you to be the judge, would you watch the remake of these movies or are you like me and refuse to watch them? Enjoy the trailers and I promise to post more this weekend!

I know that there are a dozen more remakes out there but I thought I would just show you a sampling of the movies that have been remade throughout the years. So are you like me, would you skip the remake entirely and just watch the original or do you watch both? What films would you absolutely hate to see be remade??

Ugh!! How awful! I think BARD and The Women are the worst. Why did they have to add that birth scene?! And I hate when they throw in modern things like "I do all this because of my meds" etc. So un-classy.
Frankly, I'd hate to see ANY movie be remade!! Did you hear they're planning on for Harvey now?!

Remakes can be well done sometimes, but most of the time they are not good to those who are familiar with the original. I have always loved the remake of The Parent Trap. It was done very tastefully and features throwbacks to the original (and a reference to My Favorite Wife!).
Most people don't mind or aren't aware of the fact that a movie IS a remake. I know that they aren't remaking the film so that its biggest fans can experience it again; they are remaking it to update it, to bring in new fans, or because they already own the rights to it.
Keep in mind that many classics are remakes of silent and early sound films!
That BaRD remake preview?? Blech!!! Usually the very mention of a new one in the works makes me grimace. However, in all fairness, quite a few movies I love and enjoy are remakes, or at least had a version or two made prior to the ones I like. Ben-Hur, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, State Fair, Show Boat off the top of my head... If someone had said back then, hey, you can't do this again, that book/musical/whatever's already been filmed, I would have lost out on movies I really love. So, I don't feel it's exactly fair of me to criticize their desire to remake older films. But I will criticize ANY movie that's made poorly... and their track record with remakes of classic films is particularly atrocious.
Do I see modern remakes? Usually not, and particularly not if I've seen and love the older version. They can make their movie, but they won't get my patronage. :-D
Sigh. If only Linsey Lohan could have stayed that age forever. Also, I heard that they are remaking "Bonnie and Clyde"!!! No!!
I don't like remakes because they take the spotlight away from the original movie. If the original movie was bad, sure, remake it, but if it ain't broke, don't fix it! But if the remake is done better than the original, no harm done. Like with An Affair to Remember.

I'm not a fan of remakes either. I try to keep an open mind, especially knowing that many of my favorite classic films are remakes themselves, but so many of them are just so awful that I find myself cringing at the mere idea.
If it's a remake coming up now..
..SKIP the darn thing (to 'quote' from Cole Porter's song 'It's De-Lovely' :P) But: if the remake is also made in Hollywoods Golden Era, then i'll give it a try for sure! :D
