365 Movies: Mogambo Review

Mogambo stars Clark Gable, Ava Gardner, Grace Kelly, and Donald Sinden in this 1953 remake of the 1932 film "Red Dust". The script was changed a little bit from the setting to the job, the setting was originally based in IndoChina, while the remake is based in Africa. Also the job that Clark Gable's character was as a rubber plantation owner and now is the owner of a big game trapping company. If I had to choose, which film I liked more I'd probably say the '32 version, just because of the spark between Harlow and Gable. In the '53 version, though their great together, Gardner and Gable didn't have the same feistyness that Gable and Harlow had. In the '53 version, Gardner brought more of a sympathetic role to the character, but with Harlow's portrayal she brought her snappy and rough attitude to the film. As for the Linda Nordley/Barbara Willis(played by G.Kelly and M.Astor), I really liked Astor moreso than Kelly. I honestly have to say though, sometimes I find Astor a tad drab but in Red Dust, she really sparked.
