Couples that deserve more recognition

We've all heard of Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall and Spencer Tracy and Katharine Hepburn but there are so many other on screen couples that need some more recognition. Here is my list of Underrated Couples in no particular order.

Dana Andrews and Gene Tierney- starred in 5 movies together

Jeffrey Lynn and Priscilla Lane- starred in 8 movies together

Joseph Cotten and Jennifer Jones- starred in 3 movies together

Janet Gaynor and Charles Farrell- starred in 12(?) movies together

Loretta Young and Douglas Fairbanks Jr- starred in 6 movies together

Henry Fonda and Barbara Stanwyck- starred in 3 movies together

Dorothy McGuire and Robert Young- starred in 3 movies together

Clark Gable and Jean Harlow- starred in 6 movies together

Rita Hayworth and Glenn Ford- starred in 5 movies together

Judy Garland and Gene Kelly- starred in 3 movies together

Bette Davis and George Brent- starred in 5(?) movies

Joan Crawford and Franchot Tone- starred in 7 movies together

Cary Grant and Katharine Hepburn- starred in 4(?) movies together

The latter one many may disagree with me but the film that they are most recognized for being in was "The Philadelphia Story". I would definitely recommend that you see the other three.

Just like Cary and Katharine, Barbara and Henry were most famous for being in "The Lady Eve" together but it's still worth seeing them in the other two as well.

What couples do you believe needed more recognition?

Hi! Dick Powell & Ruby Keeler deserve more attention and hopefully the Busby Berkeley DVD set has gotten them the attention they so desperately need! They were the embodiment of the "All-American" couple during the 1930s and while Keeler's career vanished, Powell constantly reinvented himself. First as a Film Noir leading man and later as an accomplished director in film and TV. Powell in particular was an interesting fellow and I wish there was a biography on the guy, as his career spans the 1930s-1950s.

Nice to "meet" you! ;)

I absolutely agree with you on Ruby and Dick. They both were so incredibly talented and often today they are overlooked.

It's nice to meet you as well! I love your name, a great film.

I totally agree that these couples are so underrated, especially Glenn and Rita and Jeffrey and Priscilla. However, I would add Carole Lombard and Fred MacMurray to the list as well. They starred in 4 movies and were simply amazing together!

P.S. Have you seen Cotten and Jones in Love Letters? Excellent film, I highly recommend it.

I've never gotten the chance to see Love Letters but I have seen Portrait of Jennie and Since You Went You Away. I was hoping that TCM would be airing it this month but sadly they won't be.

I also agree about Carole and Fred, they were excellent in Hands Across the Table.
