365 Movies: Jupiter's Darling Review

Jupiter's Darling stars Esther Williams, Howard Keel, and Marge and Gower Champion in this 1955 film, directed by George Sidney. The film is about Amytis(Williams) who is engaged to Fabius Maximus but is truly unhappy with how life is going for her. When she hears about Hannibal, she feels an extreme urge to meet him. The film is just sooooooo corny, it was difficult to watch this movie without laughing at it(even at the parts, that weren't meant to be funny!) There isn't many actresses that I get irritated by but Esther Williams is one of them. I just can't come around to liking her. I do agree, she's a very talented swimmer but other than that, I don't see the hoopla about her. Even with the ridiculousness of the movie, Marge and Gower were adorable to watch. I really think, they would have been more popular in the 1940's than in the 1950's. This movie is also quite embarrassing for George Sanders, it's almost like his character has no backbone. It's quite sad!

You've just summed up my feelings about this movie.

Marge and Gower were sweet (they're the reason I watched this movie in the first place), but I think their numbers were better in "Show Boat."

P.S. Jeffrey Lynn is your favorite actor isn't he? I recently saw "Four Daughters," and I really liked him (and the movie).
