365 Movies: Love Crazy Review(THE FINAL FILM)

Love Crazy stars William Powell, Myrna Loy, Jack Carson, Gail Patrick, and Florence Bates in this 1941 film. On their fourth wedding anniversary, what starts off as a nostaglic and humorous walk back into their first anniversary, nearly ends in divorce, when Stephen(Powell) is found hanging out with another woman(Patrick). Still in love with Stephen, but unable to deal with the supposed affair, Susan(Loy) decides divorce is the only option. Stephen doesn't want to let Susan go, because he knows deep down, she still loves him, and so he decides that the only way, to keep his wife, is to act a little(okay a LOT!) crazy. Susan catches on pretty quickly, that its an act, but no one else seems too, which causes more complications for Stephen in the end. This was such a perfect movie to end, the series with. It had the perfect mixture misture of humor and romance in it, with my all-time favorite on-screen couple. Loy and Powell are so magentic and charming towards each other, its often hard to notice anyone else is on the screen. There were so many moments in this movie, that I was cracking up. Delightfully goofy and fun, and it had me in stitches, the whole time.

I had felt that, I had to end the series with a Myrna Loy movie, seeing as the first film, that I watched for the series, was Manhattan Melodrama. So what began with Loy, ended with Loy. Thanks to everyone who joined in on the fun during this series. Within, the next few days, I'll be adding the good, the bad, and the ugly movies, that I've seen throughout the series and I'll also be adding my top 5 favorites as well. This has been such a fun series and I hope that, I get to do something, like this, again soon!

365 Movies: Double Wedding Review

Double Wedding stars William Powell, Myrna Loy, John Beal, Florence Rice, and Jessie Ralph in this 1937 film. Unhappy with her life, Margit Agnew(Loy) tries her hardest to set her sister, Irene's life up. Displeased with this, but wanting to please her sister, Irene and her future husband, Waldo(Beal) do everything that Margit says to do. Annoyed by her controlling behavior, Charlie(Powell) tries everything in his power to annoy Margit to no end, which works wonderfully. I guess, it comes as no surprise but I looooooove any movie with Bill and Minnie and this is another great example of the chemistry that they had. Even when they are sparring, they are absolutely hilarious together. Everyone was so funny in this movie, especially John Beal. I'm not too familiar with his work, but in this, he was not only adorable but hysterical. A very good comedy, that is definitely worth watching again and again!

365 Movies: Libeled Lady Review

Libeled Lady stars William Powell, Myrna Loy, Jean Harlow, and Spencer Tracy in this 1936 film. On the day of his wedding, newspaper reporter Haggerty(Tracy) gets sidetracked yet again by his job, which doesn't please his bride-to-be, Gladys(Harlow). Ignoring his fiancee's request to quit his job, Haggerty focuses more on his job and more on an impending lawsuit, that is going on against his newspaper. Haggerty recruits Bill Chandler(Powell) to help with the case, and to possibly seduce the woman behind the case. Haggerty believes that Bill can charm Connie Allenbury(Loy) into dropping the case and to save his newspaper from going down under. It's a delightfully fun film, with an excellent cast. Loy and Powell are superb in this, as well as in every film, they ever made together. Jean is perfectly snazzy and sweet, and Tracy is the cynical tough guy, but deep inside he's lovable. I remember, awhile back, when I watched this movie, and I didn't like it. I don't know what I was thinking, when I previously watched this, but I love this movie now. Like I've said before, I really think movies, need to be watched more than once. Sometimes, you end up liking it more, the second time around.

365 Movies: Song of the Thin Man Review

Song of the Thin Man stars William Powell, Myrna Loy, Keenan Wynn, and Dean Stockwell in the final installment of The Thin Man Series. While at a nightclub, a murder is committed and Mr. and Mrs. Charles are on the case. While trying to solve the murder of band leader Tommy Drake(Phillip Reed), the couple meet a slew of daffy characters, including musician Buddy Hollis(Don Taylor) and nightclub singer, Fran Page(Gloria Graham). Though this is better than the previous Thin Man movie, it still doesn't have that magic that the first four films had. In this film, it seems Nora has more of the cracks, than Nick, which makes it enjoyable to watch. I love when she's about to hit the hay, and Nick starts getting dressed and slowly but surely, she gets up to accompany him. I didn't quite understand why, Phillip Reed's and Gloria Grahame's names were so high in the credits, when they didn't in the appear in the film much. I would have loved to have seen more Phillip but alas, that was not meant to happen. I've had so much fun watching this series and I greatly enjoyed the company of Nick, Nora, and Asta. A delightful series of films!

365 Movies: The Thin Man Goes Home Review

The Thin Man Goes Home stars William Powell, Myrna Loy, Lucile Watson, Harry Davenport, and Gloria DeHaven in the fifth installment of The Thin Man Series. Even when on vacation, somehow and someway the Charles' get involved in a case. This time, the case involves the town, Nick grew up in. After Peter Berton(Ralph Brooks) is murdered on the Charles' steps, Nick and Nora look into who killed the young man and discover much more inside the case. This film lacked quite a bit in humor. It didn't have the W.S. Van Dyke touch and the characters of Nick and Nora didn't seem themselves. Nora is so enamored with figuring out whodunnit, she looses herself and Nick doesn't have the same witty banter, that made him so charming. It was quite depressing, seeing them so differently. I enjoyed watching Powell and Loy in another film, but this film doesn't do them justice. It almost doesn't feel like it's a Thin Man movie. I also found Gloria DeHaven to be quite annoying in this film, and I'm hoping that her other performances aren't like this.

365 Movies: Shadow of the Thin Man Review

Shadow of the Thin Man stars William Powell, Myrna Loy, Barry Nelson, Donna Reed, and Sam Levene in the fourth installment of The Thin Man Series. The film came out in 1941 and this was the last Thin Man movie, that W.S. Van Dyke directed. The film is about a jockey being found dead and once again, Nick Charles(Powell) is on the case. This time, though his wife Nora, wants to be more involved in solving the case, which in that case, Nick needs to avert her attention in one way or another to something else. This was another great Thin Man movie, but I felt it didn't have as much as humor and wit, as the other three did. It came off more serious and there weren't as many cracks in the film as three previous ones. Even though, I thought it was quite unnecessary to bring a child into the film series, that little boy is pretty darn cute.

365 Movies: Another Thin Man Review

Another Thin Man stars William Powell, Myrna Loy, Virginia Grey, Otto Kruger, Tom Neal, Nat Pendleton, C.Aubrey Smith, and Patric Knowles in the third installment of The Thin Man Series, directed by W.S. Van Dyke III. The film came out in 1939 and is about married sleuths Nick(Powell) and Nora(Loy) Charles getting tangled in yet another case. This time, the case is about Colonel MacFay(Smith) who fears his life is in danger, so he calls Nick to help protect him. This is another fine example of how perfect Powell and Loy are together. They work so amazingly well together and the silly little jokes between the two is wonderful to watch. This movie fits right into the humor and wit, that the first two films had. Even with a brief appearance in the film, I loved seeing Patric Knowles in the movie. I thoroughly enjoyed this movie and I can't wait to see it again!

365 Movies: I Love You Again Review

I Love You Again stars William Powell, Myrna Loy, and Frank McHugh in this 1940 film directed by W.S. Van Dyke. The film is about a man named Larry Wilson(Powell), who while on board a ship falls overboard while trying to save another man. The next thing, Larry finds out is, he isn't Larry- he's George Carey a notorious con-man. The man he ended up saving, wants to help in anyway possible but they get themselves involved in Larry's life. With amnesia fully set in and George not remembering his past self, he and 'Doc' Ryan(McHugh) come up with a plan to get a hold of a lot of money. When they return from their trip on the ship, they soon find out they have a little problem- Larry has a wife! The teaming of Powell and Loy is and always will be unbelievable to watch. They were so splendid as a couple and often times, you forget that they are just two actors and not an actual married couple. Aside from "The Thin Man'', this movie really highlights Powell's comedic talents. He is so utterly funny and with him, Loy, and McHugh, you are in for an enormous treat. The trio is so uproariously funny! McHugh has always been a favorite of mine from the "Four Daughters" series, so I wasn't expecting anything less from him. He was spectacular! This was such a cute movie and I can't wait to re-watch it again soon!
