Dirk Bogarde: The Writer

I was going to do a Halloween post for Dirk, but when I was thinking it over, it wasn't really panning out, quite the way I envisioned. So I then though, why not show my readers, another side of Dirk, you might be unfamiliar with- he was a writer. Dirk wrote a total of 17 books, in his lifetime, including autobiographies and novels. He also wrote a few poems as well. Just with his acting, Dirk wrote with such sophistication and wit, it's hard not to be sucked in. When I went looking for his books, I found that a good portion of his books are available to buy on www.amazon.com and if you are interested about his other work, go tohttp://www.dirkbogarde.co.uk/index.php on info about his career, life, and hobbies. That website is filled with so much amazing things about Dirk! So if you are looking for a book to read, check out some of these titles. You never know, you may really enjoy them!

Let Me Prove to You, I Can Act!

It seemed when Dirk Bogarde started his career, he knew exactly what he was doing. He usually would play the suave well-spoken man, who may have a secret hidden underneath. He always played his characters with such conviction and truth, it was often hard to see anyone else, trying to play that role. Tonight I'll present you some clips of Dirk from his early career, to his later work. Enjoy!

With Jean Simmons in "So Long at the Fair"(1950)

"The Sleeping Tiger"(1954)

With Olivia De Havilland in "Libel"(1958)

With Judy Garland in "I Could Go on Singing"(1963)

With Julie Christie in "Darling"(1965)

"Night Porter"(1970)

"Despair"(1978)

When you found out that Dirk Bogarde was going to be in a movie, you knew you would be instantly enchanted by his performance. Whether he played a cad or a wealthy aristocrat, Dirk played each role so well and to his best ability, you knew he wouldn't disappoint.

Let Me Prove to You, I Can Act!

During the early start of an actor's career, many people may assume that either the actor can't act or they were meant for one type of role. When Marlo Thomas landed the role of Ann Marie in the 1966 hit show, "That Girl", she was then stereotyped as the career girl, but Ann wanted to break that mold and she did, by playing a variety of different characters. Marlo then went onto several movies and television movies, further expanding her ability as an actress. Here clippings of Marlo from pre-days before "That Girl", during, and after. Enjoy!

Screen Test for "That Girl"

On "Ben Casey"

Season 5 of "That Girl"

"Jenny" with Alan Alda

"It Happened One Christmas"

"Free to Be You and Me"

"Friends"

Although throughout Marlo's career seemed destined to play the cutesy career girl, she did make an impact on television history. Without Marlo embodying the role of Ann Marie, we would have never seen a driven career girl, who wasn't looking to hop into marriage anytime soon, especially during a time, when it was expected. So thanks Marlo, for your fun roles and your truly charismatic performances!

I Want Your Style, Dirk Bogarde!

Dirk Bogarde was the 1960's Cary Grant. He was well-dressed, spoke exceptionally well, and charmed any viewer watching him. Dirk excelled in the style department, whether he was dressing up for a premiere or just relaxing at home, Dirk always looked impeccable. Here are some pictures(Thanks to Kate, for sending some pictures my way!), of his incredible style, enjoy!

Dirk really could handle any style he wore- whether it was a simple black and white tux or plaid shirt with some jeans, Dirk looked good wearing anything.

Dirk didn't really seem to shy away from different colors such as yellows, blues, reds, or greens, Dirk embraced color.

I want your style, Marlo Thomas!

Throughout the years, Marlo Thomas has maintained a simple and adorable style through her choices of clothing and hair styles. Today, I present pictures of the lovable actress from her early days before "That Girl", to her days during "That Girl" and after, in which she aged very gracefully. The pictures are all rather jumbled together, but you'll get the idea of how Marlo Thomas has changed through the times.

Marlo's style started off as the cute girl next door and gradually changed into a sophisticated look as she got older. What began, as fun and cute, grew into a more mature look for a woman, who was aging beautifully. When Marlo was younger, she would wear a lot of vibrant colors such as oranges, reds, and yellows, but when she got older, she wore colors, that were more subtle such as whites, blacks, and grays.

With the times Marlo changed her style, just as the times were changing but she maintained the same fun personality she always had.
